Our Programs

Books4Kids

We are on a mission to donate 10 FREE books to every school-aged child in Napa County, starting with 1st graders at the five most under-resourced elementary schools in the Napa Valley Unified School District. We want to get these kids free books because:

Studies show that 61% of children growing up in socioeconomically disadvantaged households do not have access to any age-appropriate books at home,

  • 54% of our student population here in Napa County come from socioeconomically disadvantaged households,

  • Children who are not reading at grade-level by the end of third grade are four times less likely to graduate high school on time,

  • The number one learning tool educators need to continue supporting their kids are physical books and resources,

  • 80% of educators cited books as an item they currently need.

Get involved by donating money, donating books, and helping us spread the word!

Books4Teachers

Through our Books4Teachers program we provide educators with the resources they need to build robust classroom libraries and increase the # of books kids have access to at school. Why are classroom libraries important?

  • Children learning to read need access to meaningful and personally interesting books.

  • An effective classroom library provides a place for teachers to teach and children to learn about books and book selection.

  • A robust classroom library serves as a resource and location for independent reading, personal exploration, project research, and individual assessment.

  • By providing access to a rich classroom library, teachers promote greater amounts of reading, increased reading frequency, and more diverse reading experiences among their students, thus helping them to attain greater levels of reading achievement.

The Books4Teachers program allows teachers to request books for their classroom libraries which we then fulfill with a mix of new and used books from our book inventory. We've already received numerous requests from teachers looking for books for their classroom and students here in Napa, but we need your help! Give kids access to more books in the classroom by donating today!

Be sure to select “Books4Teachers” from the “My donation is for…” dropdown menu so we know where to direct your funds.

Speaking of teachers - are you an educator in the Napa Valley? Are you looking for specific books to add to your classroom library? Create a Wishlist and we’ll work with you to get the books you need.

Authors in Schools

Fostering connections between children and authors brings the reading and writing process alive. We partner with authors from around the world to bring diverse stories to life in classrooms throughout the Valley.

Inviting children's book authors and illustrators to Napa Bookmine and local schools has been a part of our mission since 2013. Some of the authors who have visited include: Christian Robinson, Bob Barner, Eunice James and Sabrina Moyle of Hello!Lucky, Andrew Jordan Nance of Mindful Arts SF, Sally Bolger, Regina Shklovsky, Annie Rugyt (who also designed our logo!), and more.

If you are an educator that would like to bring an author to your school, please fill out this form and we’ll reach out to you directly.
